In the spirit of the American West, we invite adventurers, Hunters, ranchers, cowboys, survivalists, explorers, or people who just want to have fun doing something challenging and exciting, to the the 2025 Guidance Steel Target Shooting Cowboy Action Retreat.
 

Guests will develop their skills using single-action revolvers, lever action rifles, and shotguns.

Multiple Daily Shooting Sessions

Guidance Steel Target Shooting is excited to present a multi-day action shooting retreat for Guidance Shooting Club members and invited guests held in the foothills of Yosemite on a private ranch! This retreat will include all firearms and ammo required for each session, meals and snacks each day, a bunk house for sleeping or a tent site for those who prefer to camp! Each session will be taught by Reilly Bodycomb.

 There is no skill requirement for these retreats, however all students must be legally allowed to possess a firearm in the USA. All ammunition and firearms are provided. If you have any questions about the retreat, please email guidancesteel@gmail.com for more information.

RETREAT ACTIVITIES

DRY FIRE & SAFETY BRIEF

In this crucial training aspect, participants will learn the fundamentals of marksmanship and firearms safety. We will then practice grip, sight picture, trigger pull, and reloading, all while using unloaded firearms.  We will also  discuss how to safely move with a firearm following SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) protocols.

REVOLVERS

Retreat guests will be introduced to legendary Colt Single Action Army or "Peace Maker." This revolver is the classic side arm of the American West.

LEVER RIFLE

Participants will work on their effective use of lever action rifle as it pertains to close range speed shooting.

LEVER SHOTGUN

Guests will learn the intricacies of safely and quickly operating an 1887 lever action shotgun.

SASS COWBOY ACTION COMPETITION

On Sunday we will caravan to a real Cowboy Action Competition held in an Old West cowboy town setting!

Frequently Asked Questions

May I attend these camp?
If you are a Guidance Shooting Club member, are accompanying an alumni, or have been invited personally, you may register. If you are completely new to the Guidance Shooting Club, please check out our Private Lesson section to get involved!

Is there a dress code? (UPDATED!)
Yes. Attendees are expected to dress appropriately for the experience, and normally a tie and waistcoat is required, or variations on turn of the century formal hunting wear. However, because this particular retreat is specifically Western themed, and we will be going to an actual Cowboy Action Range, we will requires more Western specific wear.

Do I need any competitive shooting experience?
Not at all! This camp is well suited to new shooters and those just getting started in the hobby.

Do I need any camping equipment?
Not if you do not want to camp outside. However, basic toiletries, a towel, flip flops, and a water bottle are recommended. The guest bunkhouse is a step above camping, but the nights can still be cold in certain parts of the year, so long underwear is a good idea just in case.

Do I need to bring any Food?
No need! All meals and snacks are provided, as well as coffee and tea in the mornings. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know BEFORE the start of the retreat so we can prepare the right meals for you.

Do I need any shooting equipment?
Not at all! Students will be provided with all the training equipment and ammo needed for each shooting session. Pants with belt loops are required, as well as close toed shoes. If you wish to bring your own guns to the retreat, please contact us beforehand to be sure they meet the requirements needed for the training.

What is the closest airport?
Fly into Fresno (FAT) Friday and land before 4pm and we will pick you up and take you straight to the ranch! Fly out Monday morning if you don't want to miss the final session and dinner on Sunday evening. Be sure to give us your flight information in advance.Be sure to closely follow the TSA laws on flying with a firearm as seen HERE. Furthermore, be sure your handgun follows California laws.
