WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

DRY-FIRE ORIENTATION

In this crucial training aspect, participants will learn the fundamentals of marksmanship and firearms safety. We will then practice grip, sight picture, trigger pull, drawing from a holster, and safely moving between shooting positions, all while using unloaded firearms.

LEVER RIFLE

Retreat guests will first review the principles of marksmanship and firearms safety. After that we will take a deep dive into the effective use of lever-action rifles. Attendees will then get to shoot a Henry Golden Boy. They will also get the opportunity to handle a Winchester model 1873 and a Marlin model 1895.

LONG RANGE PRECISION

After being introduced to the basics of ballistic physics and long-range marksmanship, the guests will get to go on a beautiful hike throughout the property where small targets have been placed at various distances and angles providing a fun introduction to precision shooting.

SPEED & ACCURACY

Attendees will push their limits of vintage firearms manipulation! They will attempt to shoot multiple targets quickly and transition between shooting positions while being timed to see how fast they can hit all the targets without missing!

REVOLVERS

In this session guests will learn everything from basic handling to drawing and speed shooting a pair of Colt Single Action Army Revolvers, often referred to in the Old West as 'Colt Peacemakers!'

FAST DRAW

The myth of the lightning fast draw of Wild West gun slingers is legendary. There are safe ways to practice these techniques, and attendees will get the rare opportunity to be the quickest gun in town!

OLD WEST SHOOTOUT

Attendees will get to run through an Old West town setting and shoot their twin six-shooters through windows and doorways engaging multiple targets as fast as they can!

SHOTGUN

Participants will have the rare opportunity to use a vintage Winchester 370 shotgun to try to knock aerial clay targets out of the sky.

Frequently Asked Questions

May I attend these camp?
If you have previously attended a Guidance shooting lesson, a Double Tap Camp, are accompanying an alumni, or have been invited personally, you may register. If you are completely new to Guidance Steel Target Shooting, please check out our Private Lesson section to get involved!

Do I need any competitive shooting experience?
Not at all! This camp is well suited to new shooters and those just getting started in the hobby.

Do I need any camping equipment?
Not if you do not want to camp outside. However, basic toiletries, a towel, flip flops, and a water bottle are recommended. The guest bunkhouse is a step above camping, but the nights can still be cold in certain parts of the year, so long underwear is a good idea just in case.

Do I need to bring any Food?
Not unless you want extra snacks. All meals are provided, as well as coffee and tea in the mornings. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know BEFORE the start of the retreat so we can prepare the right meals for you.

Do I need any shooting equipment?
Not at all! Students will be provided with all the training equipment and ammo needed for each shooting session. Pants with belt loops are required, as well as close toed shoes. If you wish to bring your own guns to the retreat, please contact us beforehand to be sure they meet the requirements needed for the training.

What is the closest airport?
Fly into Fresno (FAT) Friday and land before 4pm and we will pick you up and take you straight to the ranch! Fly out Monday morning if you don't want to miss the final session and dinner on Sunday evening. Be sure to give us your flight information in advance.

Be sure to closely follow the TSA laws on flying with a firearm as seen HERE. Furthermore, be sure your handgun follows California laws. Check HERE for details.

Who do I ask if I have any other questions?
